Soap Soup: Sodium
SOAP SOUP is a mod based on an obscure Japanese minimalist art-game from 2007. I was invited to produce a room for a large 2024 release. My room is a tribute to the warm glow of sodium vapor street lamps. To create the atmosphere, I designed a soundscape with central Illinois cicadas, a distant summer storm, and the crunch of asphalt underfoot. The visuals rely on a high sensitivity to light and shadow, and sophisticated spherical projection mapping was used to create realistic textures from the perspective of a person standing in a parking lot.
